Lure Coursing with Jack Russell Terriers

Upgrades and Additions

I eventually upgraded to the better pulley because I wanted the ability to run in all weather, use less string tension, and frankly, the spun stainless steel pulley looks a lot cooler. It works by actually gripping the string in its slot instead of the friction method of the other pulley.

I also purchased two of the highest quality pulleys. They are called Colorado Box Pulleys. They are constructed of wood and UHMW plastic. They work much better for the first two pulleys near the lure machine. Also, when you secure them to the ground you don't have to drive 3-4 8 inch nails like the other corners, you use one great big spike.

If you run a lot of races back to back on a warm day, you can get your motor too hot very easily. Injoy sells a cooling fan and shroud that you can mount over the motor that will keep it nicely cool. You won't have to take a break to wait for the motor to cool down between runs. Because I like to tinker around, I made a similar fan and shroud out of a galvanized bucket and a 12 volt fan purchased at a used electronics parts warehouse. Believe me, the fan is a good investment if you intend to run the lure machine for any extended periods.

One of the neatest things that Injoy sells is their quick battery connectors. They make it so easy to connect and disconnect batteries.

I recently decided to design my own lure coursing stand. I designed a stand that is built out of steel instead of wood. Fortunately I have a friend that has a metal shop and his business is to build ladder racks for pickups. He has all the materials and tools to construct anything you could imagine.
This is a photo of my new Lure Coursing Machine.

Here is a photo of my new machine with the Injoy Stainless Steel pulley, my homemade Mexican bucket cooling fan and a battery.

There are lots of extras that you can get into as you get going. Injoy sells all that stuff too.
